Complaints & Appeals Process
Purpose: Describe processes for appeals (author appeals) and complaints (e.g. about editorial conduct).
Content and Elements:
- Appeals (Author): Explain how authors can appeal decisions. E.g. “Authors may appeal a rejection by submitting a written request to the Editor-in-Chief, detailing any overlooked arguments or new data. Appeals are evaluated by an independent editor.” (Cite [20] as rationale.)
- Complaints: For general concerns (e.g. perceived bias), provide a contact (e.g. editor@) and the guarantee of impartial handling.
- Transparency: Reassure that all appeals will be kept confidential and decided objectively.
- Timeframe: Optionally give a window (e.g. appeals within 30 days of decision).
- Outcome: State what may happen (e.g. reconsideration, re-review, upheld rejection).
Sample Wording: “If you believe an editorial decision was unjust, you may appeal within 30 days of notification. Please email a detailed explanation to the Editor-in-Chief, who will arrange a fair re-evaluation (often by a different editor). All appeals are handled confidentially.”
